Ambiente 2018 in Frankfurt Germany is where Rarity will be in 8 days. Our fourth collaboration with the CBI, at Ambiente 2018 under the mentoring of Irene Vermeulen the international trend forecaster and founder of Craftscurator.
The Rarity collection at Ambiente 2018.
This is the first time we will show our new collections in Springbok and Feathers in Europe. Just having won the best new product in New York we are waiting in anticipation to see the reactions of the European buyers to our latest design at Ambiente-2018. The Hanna, is the interpretation of Transparency through color layering to create a translucent effect. With a contrast of the fragile feathers and the structured Mesozoic shins of the Ostrich, we are reminded that with one the other is amplified in its nature. We will also take our off-center collection, a playful look at changing perceptions. Clever secret joins remind us that one can be left off-centre without apparent flaws.
In love with feathers, in love with South African design.
The timing could not be better to show our new Ambiente feather collection. Feathers are mode du moment, with all the leading designers using plumage in their collections. To quote the rather wordy but fabulous In Love letter to feathers, by Ellie-Pithers. ” Overwhelming was the verdict at Balenciaga, where feathers provided the comprehensible fragment of fabulousness for the excessive final look: a model bobbing down the catwalk in a floor-length couture gown with an XXL bag on her hip, every inch — every inch! — Of both covered in feathers. At Raf Simons‘s Calvin Klein show, the meaning was shifting: affixed to spray upwards on cocktail dresses, feathers recalled a bygone sophistication.”
Not only are feathers at the forefront of design, South African design with our wealth of indigenous materials and our African design influences is also très branché. It is becoming fashionable to say your products are South African buy design, and many leading designers, especially in the Western Cape have expanded footprints in Europe and America.
Just look at Pichulik’s jewellery, Indigi designs home decor, Vogel designs furniture and Mungo home textiles. All these brands design and manufacture 100% locally and are ambassadors for South African design and creative businesses.
