So how did it all happen?
After its launch in 2010, Instagram rapidly gained popularity, with one million registered users in two months, 10 million in a year, and ultimately 800 million as of September 2017. In April 2012, Facebook acquired the service for approximately US$1 billion in cash and stock. Over 40 billion photos have been uploaded, as of October 2015, to the service.
6 years after the launch of IG, in November 2016 I was invited as a panel speaker at Trade and Impact in Morocco, this fantastic experience not only allowed me to share a platform with the renowned international designer Hisham Lahlou Lilou and Sidai co-founder designer Becky Olivia Moore, but it was also when I decided to join Instagram after an inspiring social media presentation by Miri Rodrigues, storyteller @microsoft ( yes that’s a title! how cool)
Instagram allows real-time, honest representations of the work we do, the awards we get and most importantly the artisans behind our brand. Even with our humble following of just under 2000 ppl – follow us – we were able to catch the eye of Heidi Roelf, producer extraordinaire at Afrocaans film television.
Just back from filming Survivor Philippines, the dynamic team at Afrokaans, film and Television including videographers, photographers, sound technicians, personality Werner Wessels and a host of assistants’ all squeezed into the Rarity studio to document how our bags are made, by the Artisans who make them.
So when can you see Rarity?
‘Die Kroonprins’ on @viatv, DSTV channel 147, 8th November 2018- if you don’t catch it, be sure to check out the repeats! Werner Wessels, secret secretary of many beauty queens, takes care of ordinary women for special occasions, and Rarity handbags.
What’s in it for you?
A ‘kuikers geskenkie’, our NYC award-winning Hanna feather wristlet will be given to one lucky viewer! Not a winner? We have a couple that we can sell to you!
