From one trade show to the Next18.
It’s great to be part of the inaugural trade collaboration Next18 with 33 fellow South African designers meeting in the East City of Cape Town. To be selected as one of 33 Companies is a privilege, as amongst the fellow exhibitors, are some of my favourite designers, including Wren Design who was one the few South African designers exhibiting at Ambiente 2018. South Africans represented only 0.9% of the exhibitors, with 3 of the 4 companies from Cape Town!
The NEXT18 Trade Exhibition will take place from February 22-25, 2018 from 10:00 – 18:00 in the Homecoming Centre in the East City of Cape Town. This collaboration between SEDA, the CCDI and the CBI is a unique opportunity for international and local buyers to meet manufactures curated by design. There is also an opportunity to visit designer manufactures in their showrooms and workshops throughout the city. It’s always a pleasure to showcase our manufacturing studios, and we have painted and primed ours. It’s looking great and we can’t wait to show it off.
Who will be there?
The 33 exhibitors represent the best of South African product design, showing their new ranges of small furniture, lighting, home textiles, and fashion and home accessories, ready to order by retailers and decorators. We look forward to seeing fellow NEW YORK NOW exhibitors Mungo who will be showing their #iwantthis! textiles that are handwoven in Plettenberg Bay, a few hours outside of Cape Town. You’ve got to love Meyervonwielligh furniture design, and revitalizing the craft of African basket weaving into a covetable contemporary design is Binky Newman from Design Africa.
Admission is free! Uber down and come join the over 3000 invited international buyers coming to SA in pursuit of export-ready Design. Want to know why they are all flying in? come and see what the buzz is all about.
